“Armley Action Team is run by local people who understand the needs of our community. Most of us live here and all have a vested interest in the improvement and growth of our own people and place.”

Armley Town Street Transformation

Our Why
There has been a deterioration in the mix of shops on Armley Town Street, with some of the mainstream retail opportunities now missing from the area. Armley suffers from drugs and alcohol disorder which directly impacts on the community and local business which has led to disinvestment in places and made the high street experience a poor one.
Our Idea
Our key aim is to improve the prosperity and diversity of Armley Town Street and to make it an attractive place for the community to live, work, shop and socialise in. Building on all our work in Armley we have been given a set of small units on a peppercorn rental from Leeds City Council. In these units we are creating offices, food/baby bank, pre-school retail, and a community room.
Our vision is to strategically bring together, and support, a wide range of people and organisations from the public, private and third sectors to work together to improve Armley and overcome problems, both real and perceived, for the benefit of everyone.
